Sneh Rana breaks India's two legendary bowlers' record with 2 wickets against Pakistan in Colombo

India's spin-bowling all-rounder Sneh Rana scripted history at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on October 5 in the Women's ODI World Cup 2025 clash against Pakistan. Rana claimed two wickets against Fatima Sana-led Pakistan to break the record for most wickets at a venue by an Indian bowler in women's ODIs.

The two wickets helped Rana take her tally of wickets in Colombo to 17. The previous record belonged to legendary India bowlers Nooshin Al Khadeer and Jhulan Goswami. Former off-spinner Khadeer has 16 wickets in Lincoln whereas Goswami has as many wickets at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Goswami retired as the highest wicket-taker in ODIs (255). Khadeer is fourth Indian bowler with 100 or more ODI wickets.

Rana's first scalp was wicketkeeper-batter Sidra Nawaz. The Pakistan batter went down the track but got caught and bowled in the 38th over of the run chase. In her next over, she got the prized wicket of Sidra Amin. With Amin departing for 81, it turned out to be the final nail in the coffin in Pakistan's failed attempt at run chase. Pakistan were bowled out for 159 in 43 overs, losing the match by 88 runs.

Rana bowled eight overs, conceded 38 runs and picked up two wickets. Earlier, she contributed with 20 runs from 33 deliveries, including two fours. 

Rana repays team management’s faith

In spin-friendly conditions, she has been picked ahead of Arundhati Reddy. She is third on the list of leading wicket-takers in the tournament with four scalps to her name. She is among the top 10 run-scorers in the tournament as well.

India to face a wounded South African side

With their second win on the trot, Harmanpreet Kaur-led India are on the top of the points table. Their next match is against a wounded South African side in Visakhapatnam on October 9. In their opening game, South Africa were bowled out for a paltry 69 by England. They lost the match by 10 wickets at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati.
