India's T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav revealed that his personal regret in his cricketing career is not having had the opportunity to play under the legendary MS Dhoni. Suryakumar Yadav, who led India to an unbeaten Asia Cup triumph in Dubai last week, reflected on missing the chance to represent the national side under the iconic 'Captain Cool'.

However, he has faced Dhoni many times in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Mumbai batter said that he used those encounters as an opportunity to learn from the legendary skipper by closely observing his approach to the game.

Speaking at JITO Connect 2025, the flamboyant batter said, "Firstly, I always wanted to get an opportunity when he was the captain of India. But I never got it. I saw him behind the stumps whenever I played against him. He has been very cool. One thing that I have learned from him when I played against him is to stay relaxed in all pressure situations, he looks around the game, sees around what is happening and then takes a call."

Suryakumar Yadav for Virat Kohli's captaincy

Suryakumar Yadav made his international debut against England in Ahmedabad in 2021 under Virat Kohli's captaincy. The T20I star didn't get an opportunity to bat in his first match. Suryakumar Yadav reckons that batting great Kohli used to be a very hard task master in his captaincy days. 

"I think I made my debut under Virat bhai as captain. I think Virat bhai is a very hard task master. He pushes your limits, and he wants the best. I mean, all the captains want the best from all the players, but he was full of energy on the field and off the field as well. He was a bit different."

Suryakumar Yadav for Rohit Sharma's captaincy

Suryakumar Yadav, who was announced as Rohit Sharma's sucessor to lead India in the shortest format of the game after the T20 World Cup 2024. Surya played a lot of cricket with Rohit, and he had memorable moments, including a match-winning catch in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa in Barbados. Suryakumar Yadav played numerous games under Rohit with both the Mumbai Indians and the Indian team

Speaking about Rohit, Suryakumar said, "Then Rohit bhai, under whom I played a lot of cricket for the IPL franchise and India. He is someone who gets everyone comfortable around them, an inspiration to all youngsters. His door was open 24/7 for everyone. That's a different quality which I learnt from him and also from the other captains."

Notably, Suryakumar Yadav-led India defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai.
