India’s pace-bowling all-rounder Amanjot Kaur hit the winning four as India advanced to the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 final with a record-breaking run chase against Australia. Ahead of the final against South Africa, Amanjot opened up about her injury before the World Cup and how she hid it from her family and answered their obvious questions. Amanjot said that her family will get to know about her injury as they watch the live broadcast of the World Cup final.
“I think I'm pretty used to it now (talking about injury, rehabilitation and what it meant to her family), but my family isn't. They still don't know I was injured (before the WC). So I told them I'm going for a high performance camp. So they were like, why are you only going for the high performance camp? Or why are you being rested? Why isn't Harman being rested or Jemi? So I said, no, I was special. So I have to go for a high performance camp,” Amanjot told Star Sports.
“So now by the media or by the interviews, they'll get to know that I was injured. But I am very grateful for the opportunities I've got and I've literally grabbed every bit of it. So just hoping for the best for now,” she added.
Amanjot wasn’t nervous in run chase
Amanjot walked in to bat in the 47th over. India needed 29 runs to win from four overs. While it was a pressure situation, Amanjot said that she was just waiting for the opportunity instead of getting nervous. She wanted to make amends for the match against England and wanted to finish it early.
“I was not nervous (emotions when she hit the winning runs in the semi final), but I was just waiting for my turn. I didn't want to leave. As I left in the England match, I took it too deep. And then the Australia game, I left seven balls for someone else. So I wanted to finish it and I am glad I did it,” the 25-year-old said
“And plus, Jemi's knock was commendable and Harry (Harmanpreet) di's knock was pretty amazing. The way she played her innings and those cameos by Deepthi, Richa. And then I finished it. I am glad I finished that. Wonderful atmosphere. The crowd went crazy,” she further recalled.
Amanjot on mood in India camp
Amanjot talked about the mood in the camp ahead of the final and the conversations before facing South Africa in the title clash.
“We all are very positive and very excited, but it's raining outside and we are holding our nerves. We are just finding something to do. We are getting bored and we are really excited to step out right now,” she said.
“Pretty simple conversation. We said, yes, we have done it. We have won against Australia, but we need to leave it there only. That is done and now we have to focus on the final against South Africa. So we have to be here in the present. So we are not thinking too far ahead, but we want to be in the present right now,” she further added.
From six games, Amanjot has scored 134 runs from six innings at an average of 44.66, including a half-century. She has six wickets at an average of 40.
