India speedster Jasprit Bumrah, who is leading India in the fifth Test match, suffered an injury scare on Day 2 of the Sydney Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He was sent to a local hospital after experiencing discomfort after bowling one over at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
While addressing the media, Prasidh Krishna revealed that Bumrah suffered a back spasm, which cast massive doubt on his participation on Day 3.
"He had a back spasm. He had gone for scans. The medical team is monitoring him. So, we will know whenever the medical team gets back to us," Krishna told the reporters.
However, as per TOI, the legendary speedster can come to bat on Day 3 but the decision for his bowling will be taken by the management on the basis of his condition in Day 3 morning.
"Bumrah was taken for a precautionary scan after a back spasm but nothing serious at the moment. He should be okay to bat but a final call on his bowling will be taken on the basis of how he feels in the morning. So let's see and the medical team is closely monitoring him," the report claimed.
Bumrah is currently the highest wicket-taker in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, picking up 32 wickets. He led India in the first Test match, where Men in Blue defeated Australia by 295 runs to take a 1-0 lead. However, Pat Cummins-led Australia bounced back in the series, winning the second Test match by 10 wickets. The third Test match at Gabba ended in a draw, and Australia won the fourth Test match by 184 runs to take a 2-1 lead in the five-Test match series.
Coming back to the fifth Test, After Bumrah's absence, Virat Kohli took charge as an on-field captain in Sydney. After scoring 185 runs in the first innings, India's bowlers bundled out Australia on 181 runs. India top order batters again failed to perform in second innings as Australia picked up six wickets before at end of Day 2.
