Led by Jasprit Bumrah, Indian pace attack caused a collapse as dark clouds scattered and sun came out in Brisbane. Australia lost seven wickets for just 89 runs as Travis Head's stay at the crease was short-lived. Skipper Pat Cummins hit a couple of sixes in his 10-ball 22 before getting dismissed by Bumrah and declared the innings. Australia have set a target of 275 for India with a few hours to go.
A minimum of 54 overs are left in the Day 5's play. However, rain may play spoilsport as it has so far at The Gabba. The play will continue until the light permits as there is no cut-off time.
After bowling out India for 260 with Head dismissing Akash Deep, Australia's second innings was delayed by lightning strikes and rain. Australian faced a collapse as top four batters registered single-digit scores. Bumrah knocked over Usman Khawaja and then Marnus Labuschagne edged one to Rishabh Pant.
Deep was introduced into the attack and Nathan McSweeney got out caught behind. Head hit a few fours as he launched a counter-attack. Deep in his second over got rid of Mitchell Marsh who was promoted up the order. Mohammed Siraj joined the party as Steve Smith suffered a soft dismissal. Australia lost half the side for just 33 runs in 11 overs.
Head and Alex Carey took Australia's score past 50 as they dealt in boundaries. Siraj got one up over Head as the top-edge carried to Pant. He scored 17 runs from 19 balls. Cummins walked out to bat and hit Deep and Siraj for a six each. Bumrah came back into the attack and got rid of Cummins. He scored 22 runs from 10 balls.
Mitchell Starc scored two runs whereas Carey remained unbeaten for a run-a-ball 20 as Australia posted 89/7 and declared the innings.
India's run chase halted early
As soon as Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rahul came out to bat, the dark clouds returned. Both batters scored four runs each before rain interrupted play again. India's score is eight runs for no loss and need 267 runs to win the Gabba Test. However, it is likely to end in a draw.
