Highlights:

Dinesh Karthik was denied a no-ball in the last over of the innings.

Virat Kohli had an animated conversation with the on-field umpires over the decision.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were outclassed in all departments of the game by Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium. MI chased down the target of 197 with seven wickets in hand and 27 balls to spare. While RCB bowlers were rendered ineffective by MI’s big-hitters, Dinesh Karthik was exceptional with the bat in the first innings. Karthik smashed an unbeaten 53 off 23 balls. However, RCB’s score could have crossed the 200-run mark had it not been for a controversial call which later led to Virat Kohli’s argument with the on-field umpires.

In the last over bowled by Akash Madhwal, the pacer bowled an above-waist height delivery. The on-field umpires did not signal no-ball but Karthik wasn't convinced. Karthik denied a single to Akash Deep as he wanted a single and reviewed the call. To Karthik's surprise, even the third umpire Virender Sharma did not overturn the decision.

Karthik was left shocked as Madhwal had bowled a golden dot ball in the final over of the innings. However, Karthik smashed a six and two fours in the remaining deliveries to make it a 19-run over.

The controversial call made Kohli visibly upset. Later, he had an animated conversation with on-field umpires Nitin Menon and Vineet Kulkarni.

While Karthik smashed five fours and four sixes in his electrifying 23-ball 53, Kohli failed with the bat. The Orange Cap holder struggled to score against the new ball and fell to Jasprit Bumrah after scoring just three runs from nine balls.

Patidar, Du Plessis score fifties

Apart from Karthik, Rajat Patidar and skipper Faf du Plessis scored half-centuries as well. Patidar smashed four sixes and three fours in his 26-ball 50 whereas Du Plessis played the anchor role after two early wickets. The former South Africa captain scored 61 runs from 40 balls including four fours and three sixes.
