Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) Umran Malik put up his best show in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the match against table toppers Gujarat Titans (GT) on Wednesday (April 27). However, Umran's splendid 5/25 went in vain as Hardik Pandya-led side had the last laugh in a thriller by five wickets.
Umran has been consistently performing good in the ongoing IPL and has grabbed many eyeballs with his fiery bowling. Meanwhile, congress leader and former finance minister P Chidambaram is completely in awe of the 22-year-old speedster.
While lavinshing praise on Umran, Chidambaram suggested Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to allocate an exclusive coach to hone the skills of the pacer and quickly induct him into the nation team.
"The Umran Malik hurricane is blowing away everything in its way. The sheer pace and aggression is a sight to behold. After today's performance there can be no doubt that he is the find of this edition of IPL," he tweeted.
"The BCCI should give him an exclusive coach and quickly induct him into the national team," he added.
Talking about the match, GT and SRH came into the match as table toppers and in the end the two teams showed why by putting up a nail-biting contest at the Wankhede stadium. If there was Umran's fiery five-wicket haul—his first in IPL for SRH, it was topped by Titans’ ultimate finisher Rahul Tewatia 40* (21, 4x4, 2x6), who narrowed the 196-run target down from 47 off 18 balls to 35 from 12 before getting the 22 runs needed off Marco Jansen’s last over.
Requiring 15 runs of 4 balls, Rashid Khan swung his bat hard with three sixes to finish with 31* (11b, 4x6).
Earlier this season, when Malik's four-wicket haul helped SRH beat Punjab Kings, another Congress leader, Shashi Tharoor, had also called for him to be inducted into the Indian squad.
"We need him in India colours asap. What a phenomenal talent. Blood him before he burns out! Take him to England for the Test match greentop. He and Bumrah bowling in tandem will terrify the Angrez!" he had tweeted.
