IPL 2022: LSG skipper KL Rahul leapfrogs Suresh Raina's record against MI

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul is on a roll with the willow in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday (April 24), the flamboyant batter struck another half century in the IPL 2022 to claim a record against his name. Rahul's fifty came in just 37 balls and with this he had surpassed Suresh Raina's record of smashing most number of half-centuries against MI. The 30-year-old have now eight fifties against the five-time IPL champions.

Rahul didn't get the best of the start in the tournament as he was out for a duck in the IPL opener against another new entrants of the 15th season of the cash-rich league i.e Gujarat Titans. But since then he never looked back and he went on to slam a century (103 not out) against MI in the first leg of IPL 2022. 

 

Rahul has five fifties and two hundreds against MI in his last nine innings in IPL. Meanwhile he has also completed 800 runs against the Rohit Sharma-led side in the IPL at an average of 80.

 

Rahul has scored most runs against MI, which is 867 in a total of 16 innings while former Chennai Super Kings' player Raina had amassed 824 runs in 34 innings that he had played against the Mumbai-based franchise.

 

Rahul continued fairytale run with MI

 

Rahul continued his fairytale run against MI as he went on to score his second century of IPL 2022 to spur his side to a competitive total of 168/6.

 

Rahul, who had scored a century against MI a few days back, smashed an unbeaten 103 off 62 balls with the help of 12 fours and four maximums but he didn't get enough help from the other batters.

 

Manish Pandey had a 58-run stand with Rahul but he lacked intent during his run-a-ball 22, while Marcus Stoinis (0), Krunal Pandya (1) and Deepak Hooda (10) paraded back to the hut in quick succession.

 

Later, Rahul added another 47 off 25 balls with young Ayush Badoni (14) to take LSG to a respectable total. For MI, Jasprit Bumrah was the best bowler with 1 for 31 in 4 overs while Kieron Pollard had best figures with 2/8 in two overs.
