Star England wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow is still recovering from the freak leg injury he suffered in September 2022. With the Indian Premier League (IPL) just about three weeks away, Punjab Kings are now sweating on Bairstow's availability for the upcoming edition of the cash-rich tournament. According to a report in ESPNCricinfo, the Punjab-based franchise is waiting on the England Cricket Board's (ECB) decision on the wicketkeeper-batter on whether he will be available for the entire duration of the competition or not.

The English cricketer has been in touch with Punjab's medical team and according to reports, the right-handed batter is progressing well. Recently, Bairstow uploaded a video of himself running for the first time after sustaining a painful injury.

Bairstow, who was in remarkable form with the bat, suffered a gruesome injury (a broken leg and dislocated ankle) and was forced to miss England's triumphant 2022 T20 World Cup campaign in Australia after being named in the squad. Furthermore, the right-handed batter missed several bilateral series and is still rehabilitating from the freak injury he suffered while playing golf.

Before being ruled out for a lengthy period of time, Bairstow was probably the most in-form batter in world cricket. In 10 Tests in 2022, the right-handed batter smashed six centuries.

Punjab would now hope that Bairstow's recovery process goes well and the Englishman, who scored 253 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 144.57 in IPL 2022, is available to be a part of the squad this time as well.
