Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain and maverick batter, Virat Kohli suffered an injury to his knee during the franchise's game against defending champions Gujarat Titans in the last regular season match of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Kohli walked off the field in the 15th over after completing Vijay Shankar's catch as millions of anxious fans held their breath upon watching the superstar walk off the ground. To make matters worse, Kohli didn't take any further part in the match and was spotted sitting in the dugout until the match ended.
Watching Kohli walk off the field was a scary moment not just for RCB supporters but also for Team India loyalists as the senior men's national side is scheduled to play the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia in just over a couple of weeks' time.
RCB coach Sanjay Bangar provided an update on Kohli's fitness after the match. Much to the delight of fans, Bangar affirmed that the injury wasn't anything serious and Kohli should be fine moving forward.
"Yeah, he had a bit of a niggle in his knee. But I don't think there is anything serious. Having scored two back-to-back hundreds within a gap of 4 days. He is somebody who not only wants to contribute with the bat but even when he is fielding. He did a lot of running around. 40 overs a couple of days ago and today, for 35 overs he was on the field. He was giving his best. So it is going to bother at some point but I don't think it's anything serious," Bangar said in the post-match press conference.
Kohli scored a phenomenal century but his incredible knock of overshadowed by Shubman Gill, who also registered back-to-back tons in the IPL. The former RCB skipper remained unbeaten on 101 runs off 61 balls while Gill played an outstanding knock of 104 not out in 52 balls with the help of five fours and eight sixes.
