In what came as a body blow to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), star all-rounder Washington Sundar was on April 27 (Thursday) ruled out of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise announced that the Indian all-rounder, who is also one of the marquee players of SRH, sustained a hamstring injury.
The Orange Army has endured a horrendous campaign in IPL 2023 so far. The franchise has lost five out of its seven matches and injury to Sundar comes as a double whammy for the one-time champions.
The right-arm off-spinner, who is more than a handy batter, is one of the vital cogs in SRH's team. With his all-around skillset, Sundar adds much-needed flexibility to the team. Moving forward, his absence can be telling in Sunrisers' overall performance.
In seven matches this season, Sundar bagged three wickets and scored 60 runs for SRH. The numbers don't do justice to the Indian all-rounder, who has proven himself to be a match-winner.
The all-rounder has been plagued by injuries in the last couple of years. Sundar's IPL 2022 campaign was restricted to just nine matches after he picked up a hand injury while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Before that, the dreaded COVID-19 and a hamstring injury had earlier hampered Sundar to play cricket.
