Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) wicketkeeper-batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been handed a 20 per cent match fee fine and one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the IPL's Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Ekana Cricket Stadium on April 26.
Raghuvanshi was furious at the umpire’s decision to adjudge him out obstructing the field. The youngster was wanted a single but was sent back by Cameron Green on the final ball of the fifth over. He was looking at the throw and the ball hit him as the fielder had a shy at the stumps. He was given out after Mohammed Shami appealed.
It led to controversy as KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar had a word with the fourth umpire outside the boundary line. The batter was not happy and hit the boundary cushion with his bat in anger. Also, he threw his helmet in the dugout.
“Raghuvanshi was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match.” The incident occurred in the 5th over, when, after being given out for ‘obstructing the field’, Raghuvanshi struck the boundary cushion with his bat in an aggressive manner and subsequently threw his helmet into the dugout in a similar manner,” the IPL statement read.
Another KKR collapse but manage a win in super over
Raghuvanshi, who was dismissed for just nine runs, admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction. His wicket contributed to another KKR collapse. They lost three wickets for just 27 runs in the powerplay overs.
KKR kept on losing wickets but Rinku Singh’s big-hitting in last two overs took the team to a fighting total of 155/7. In a thrilling encounter, KKR beat LSG in super over. The win helped KKR move to the eighth position, just ahead of Mumbai Indians (MI) on the basis of net run rate (NRR).
21-year-old Raghuvanshi will be seen in action again on May 3 in an away game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
