Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) only purple contender, pacer Anshul Kamboj, had a horrible outing on a pace-friendly Lucknow track on May 15. Kamboj was hit for four consecutive sixes not once but twice in the match. He ended up entering the list of unwanted IPL records a bowler can possess. Kamboj became the first bowler in IPL history to concede 4 sixes twice in an IPL match.
Kamboj breaks CSK record for most runs in an over
Kamboj was hit for four consecutive sixes in the fifth over of the innings. The short ball ploy did not work against Australian T20I captain Mitchell Marsh as he cleared the ropes with ease. He ended up conceding 28 runs in the over, most by a CSK bowler. The previous record belonged to his current teammate Mukesh Choudhary who conceded 27 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2024 edition.
Kamboj equals Yash Dayal’s record
In the 17th over, Ruturaj Gaikwad handed the ball to Kamboj. CSK needed to defend 24 runs from as many balls. Pooran started with a humongous 101-metre six. On the next ball, Pooran's catch was dropped by Kartik Sharma and the ball went over the rope. He followed it up with two more sixes and finish the run chase. He ended up conceding eight sixes in the match, equal to Yash Dayal. Playing for Gujarat Titans (GT), he was hit for eight sixes, including five in the last over by Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) Rinku Singh, in IPL 2023 clash.
Kamboj’s another unwanted record
Kamboj conceded 63 runs from 2.4 overs, second most by a CSK bowler in an innings after Khaleel Ahmed. He also created a record for conceding most runs for a bowler who has bowled less than three overs in an IPL match.
Kamboj still in purple cap race
Kamboj is alive in the purple cap race. CSK are alive in the playoffs race despite sixth defeat in 12 games. The 25-year-old pacer is third on the list with 19 wickets from 12 innings at an average of 22.52. His economy rate has crossed the 10 runs per over mark (10.11) after a forgettable outing against LSG.
Two bowlers ahead of him are Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) Bhuvneshwar Kumar with 22 wickets, followed by Gujarat Titans' (GT) Kagiso Rabada with 21 wickets.
