The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), through the IPL Governing Council, has expressed sadness over the death of Ian Williams Langford, a British national who was working as a broadcast engineer for the IPL. He was found dead in his room at Mumbai’s Trident Hotel on Monday morning.
BCCI on Ian Williams Langford's demise
In a statement, the BCCI said it was deeply saddened by his sudden passing. It described Langford as a dedicated professional who played an important role in the league’s broadcast operations.
The board also said its thoughts are with his family and friends back home. It added that the IPL will provide all possible support to his family during this difficult time. The statement also highlighted that the safety and well-being of everyone involved in the tournament remain a top priority.
How Ian Williams Langford died
Langford, 76, had been staying at the hotel since March 24 while working with the IPL broadcast team. He was part of the crew covering matches in Mumbai.

Officials said that after finishing his work at a match on March 29, Langford returned to his room late at night. The next morning, hotel staff tried to contact him several times, but there was no response.
Worried about this, the hotel staff used a master key to enter his room, where they found him lying on the floor. The hotel’s medical team was called immediately, and a doctor soon arrived, but he was declared dead at the scene.

Mumbai Police to investigate the reason behind the death
Mumbai Police have registered a case of accidental death and started an investigation. His body has been sent to Bombay Hospital for a post-mortem to find out the exact cause of death.
Initial reports suggest there were no signs of foul play, but officials have said that all possibilities are being looked into as part of routine procedure.
