Story Highlights:

Nandre Burger faces a 10 per cent fine and one demerit point.

Burger bowled one over in slog overs and dismissed a well-set Mitchell Marsh.

Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) overseas pacer Nandre Burger has been fined 10 per cent of his match free and handed one demerit point for breaching IPL code of conduct during clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

In RR’s away clash, Burger dismissed Rishabh Pant and Mitchell Marsh. While the release didn’t specify the incident for which Burger has been finished, it seems to be his send-off to LSG skipper Pant.

“Nandre Burger admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 - pertaining to using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a another player in the Match - and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction,” the IPL said in a statement.

Burger was exceptional with the ball. In his first over, the Proteas pacer got Pant out caught behind. The wicketkeeper-batter went for a reckless heave despite the ball being away from his arc and all he could manage was an outside edge.

Later in the game, Riyan Parag brought Burger back into the attack in the 16th over. He got the prized wicket of opener Mitchell Marsh with a slower one. Marsh departed for a 41-ball 55. The Australian captain’s wicket was the final nail in the coffin. LSG ended up getting bowled out for 119 in 18 overs and lost the match by 40 runs.

Burger on bowling slow balls and captain’s call to bowl at death

Burger conceded just 27 runs from his quota of four overs. In the ongoing edition, he has claimed eight wickets from seven games at an average of 23.25.

“The wicket looks like it's got that bit of a mahogany tint, so I felt like the ball would kind of grip a little bit towards the end, so I just tried to obviously change the pace, trying to do them and hopefully it grips and they hit one straight up,” Burger told the broadcasters when asked about increased use of slower balls.

Burger was pleased with the opportunity to bowl in the slog overs as well. He is ready to give his 100 per cent whenever called upon by the skipper.

“It's a call the captain makes on the day, but I'll always be ready to step up if the team needs me. Whether the result goes our way or not, I'll be there to give a 100%," the 30-year-old said.

The win helped RR rise to the second position on the points table.
