Currently Kevin Pietersen is mentoring Delhi Capitals in the ongoing IPL 2025

Former England star Kevin Pietersen is currently relishing his role as Delhi Capitals (DC) mentor in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Pietersen conveyed that his involvement with Delhi Capitals as a mentor has been a stimulating experience. He is particularly enjoying the opportunity to work closely with the players and be a part of the team environment within the dressing room. This new endeavor has also rekindled Pietersen's competitive drive. He is now motivated to assist players in their development across all facets of the game, be it mental fortitude, physical conditioning, and technical skills.

“Life is good. I absolutely love it. I love working with the players and I love spending time in the dressing room,” Pietersen was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

Besides his role as DC mentor, Kevin Pietersen also addressed Harry Brook's withdrawal from the current IPL 2025 season due to personal circumstances, which subsequently led to a two-season ban. Interestingly, Brook was later appointed as the white-ball captain for the England team.

“We were disappointed that he didn’t turn up. But those are his decisions. He’s got a big, big job now,” Pietersen added.

Kevin Pietersen wishes to coach England Team

Pietersen has publicly stated his willingness to contribute to English cricket in any role that might become available. The former dynamic batsman has made it known to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) that he is open to sharing his extensive experience and cricketing insights with the current generation of players.

Pietersen, renowned for his aggressive style at the crease, said that he still feels the pull of being in the thick of the action. However, he also expressed that his foray into coaching has brought a new and significant purpose to his involvement with the sport, extending beyond simply offering commentary and opinions.

“I’ve always been available to Rob Key. He knows that. I would still love to bat. But I absolutely love coaching and have that absolute desire and hunger to win and to try to make our players the best players they can be—mentally, technically, and physically. It’s a game-changer, because it’s very easy sitting in the commentary box and watching cricket from afar and critiquing,” the 44-year-old stated.

In the midst of his mentoring role, Pietersen lauded the Delhi Capitals players for their dedication and astute understanding of the game. This praise carried an implicit critique of the England players, referencing their reported missed practice session during their tour of India earlier in the year, suggesting a contrast in professionalism.

He expressed his admiration for the intelligent and disciplined approach of players such as KL Rahul, Faf du Plessis, and Mitchell Starc. Furthermore, Pietersen commented on the struggles of Sunrisers Hyderabad, a team known for their powerful hitting, who have faced difficulties this season with four defeats in their first six matches. He drew a parallel between Sunrisers Hyderabad's aggressive, six-hitting strategy and that of the England team, suggesting that this approach hasn't proven effective in the current IPL 2025 season, and he offered his insights into the underlying reasons for this lack of success.

“Sunrisers probably play very similar to England, where they’re just trying to hit a six every single ball. With other teams—yes, absolutely, there is that intent. But you’ve got to be smart. You have to have cricket smarts. So, understanding wickets, understanding opposition, and playing in a certain way—all of these things blend into an all-around team. You cannot be one-dimensional. Being one-dimensional, you’re going to lose,” Pietersen concluded.

DC is gearing up for their next IPL 2025 clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley stadium on April 16.
