New Zealand's Finn Allen became fourth Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter to score a century in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. Allen achieved the feat in the run chase of 143 against Delhi Capitals (DC) on May 8. After Allen's ton guided KKR to easy eight-wicket win over DC, Cameron Green took some credit for the milestone. Green revealed that he did the match after 12th over when the Kiwi opener was batting on 61. He also said that he took the single on the first ball of the 15th over to avoid becoming the 'most handed man in Kolkata'.
“Nothing really. I think, Finn, all he said was, 'see you next over.' So, yeah, that's basically what I tried to do. I was just the other end playing second fiddle,” Green said on his conversation with Allen.
“I think I did the math when we had 29 to get. So yeah, I knew I'd be the most hated man in Kolkata if I did anything else apart from that.
“I did the math. But no, Finn's very good at maths as well, so I'll give him credit for that. So, probably, he was probably doing the same. Winning, that's been the most satisfying,” he added.
How Green helped Allen get to three figures
After 12 overs, Allen was batting on 61 off 37 deliveries while Green had 29 runs from 23 balls. Both batters had hit a six each in the over of Kuldeep Yadav. In the next over, Allen hit Vipraj Nigam for three consecutive sixes, taking his score to 80. Green kept on taking singles to get Allen on strike. In the 14th over, Allen hit Kuldeep for two more sixes. He could not keep the strike for the next over as KKR needed three runs. On the first ball of the 15th over, Green got a single and got to the other end. Allen was batting on 94 and he finished the run chase with a six to complete his century from 47 balls.
Green remained unbeaten on a 27-ball 33. Allen's ton was studded with 10 sixes and five fours. He joined the list of KKR's centurions: Brendon McCullum (158 not out in 2008), Venkatesh Iyer (104 in 2023) and Sunil Narine (109) in 2024.
