Suryakumar Yadav and Ryan Rickelton's half-centuries, followed by a clinical bowling display, helped Mumbai Indians (MI) to register their fifth consecutive win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Hardik Pandya-led MI defeated LSG by 54 runs. Suryakumar continued his purple patch, scoring 54 runs, and Ryan Rickelton smashed 58 runs that helped the five-time champions to score 215/7.
While bowling, legendary speedster Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, Trent Boult got three, Will Jacks got two scalps and Corbin Bosch picked one conceding 26 runs in four overs.
With his 54 off 28 run knock, Suryakumar Yadav became the leading run-scorer in this IPL, crossing the 400-run mark with his third fifty. The India T20 skipper also completed his 4,000 runs in IPL.
Suryakumar's 58-run knock included four and as many fours, keeping MI on track for a total in excess of 200 even as Tilak Varma (6) and Hardik Pandya (5) fell in quick succession.
The standout stroke during his (Suryakumar Yadav) innings was when Suryakumar went down on his knee to lift Prince Yadav (1/44) over fine leg for a six on a waist-high ball.
LSG's Mayank Yadav and Avesh Khan were the standout performers of the match, picking two wickets each. Apart from the duo, Prince Yadav, Digvesh Rathi and Ravi Bishnoi picked one wicket each.
LSG's decision to bowl first, anticipating a spin-friendly track under the sun, did backfire to some extent on a batting-friendly pitch here, with none of their bowlers able to control stroke-play.
While chasing LSG were off to a bad start as Jasprit Bumrah picked up Aiden Markram's wicket in the second over and after that Nicholas Pooran, who was looking in good touch, got out in the seventh over. Soon after Pooran's wicket, skipper Rishabh Pant's lean patch continues as he gets out in the same over, scoring just four runs.
LSG lost half of the side, scoring 135 runs in 15 overs. Star batter Mitchell Marsh and Ayush Badoni were looking in good touch before Trent Boult picked their wickets in the 12th and 15th over, respectively. Mumbai Indians will now face Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their upcoming clash, which will take place on May 1 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
