Story Highlights:

Angkrish Raghuvanshi left the field after a finger injury.

Raghuvanshi got injured and concussed during a collision with Varun Chakaravarthy.

Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) young wicketkeeper-batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi was involved in a collision with teammate Varun Chakaravarthy trying to take Mumbai Indians’ (MI) Tilak Varma’s catch in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash on May 20. The collision led to Raghuvanshi leaving the field in the 14th over as he had an injured finger. Later, it was revealed that he had a concussion and was replaced by Tejasvi Dahiya who made his IPL debut. After KKR’s four-wicket win over MI at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, assistant coach Shane Watson gave an update on Raghuvanshi. He said that the youngster was desperate to get back to the field but he experienced neck pain and dizziness.

"He ran a long way to try and take that catch. Unfortunately, the collision that he had with Varun meant that he ended up having some neck pain, a bit of dizziness and a bit of a headache within a couple of overs of that as well. So unfortunately, he wasn't able to finish off the game. And I know how desperate he was as well," Watson said in the post match press conference.

Pandey gets a promotion, justifies it in tricky run chase

With Raghuvanshi suffering concussion, Manish Pandey was promoted to no.3, getting his first chance to bat this season. After an in-form Finn Allen was dismissed cheaply by Deepak Chahar, Pandey stabilised the run chase. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane and Cameron Green fell in the run chase too but Pandey and Rovman Powell kept the run chase afloat in the middle overs. Pandey scored 45 runs from 33 deliveries in the run chase of 148. Powell was dismissed in the 16th over for a 30-ball 40.

How Raghuvanshi’s concussion substitute performed on debut

In the slog overs, concussion substitute walked out to bat at no.7. The 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batter scored 11 runs from 12 balls. He became Corbin Bosch's third victim of the evening. Rinku Singh and Anukul Roy finished off the run chase with seven balls to spare.

KKR alive in the playoffs

Five teams still find themselves in contention for playoffs barring MI and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The win helped KKR get to the sixth position, past Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC) who have 12 points each with a game to go. Now, KKR would hope that LSG beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) who have 13 points and MI beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) who have 14 points already. If RR beat MI, it's game over for KKR. However, if PBKS beat LSG, KKR will still have a chance. They will not just need to beat Delhi Capitals (DC) on May 24 but win by a big margin to improve their net run rate (NRR).
