Gujarat Titans are yet to name Phillips' replacement.

Gujarat Titans (GT) have suffered a massive setback ahead of their encounter against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 12. Their star all-rounder Glenn Phillips has been ruled out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to a groin injury he sustained during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 6.

“Gujarat Titans wish Glenn a speedy recovery,” the franchise said in a statement.

Phillips did not play a single game in the season for GT. He was roped in by the franchise for his base price of Rs 2 crore at the mega auction.

Phillips replacement will be Titans' headache

Finding a replacement for Phillips will be a daunting task for GT. He is one of the best fielders in the game. In addition, several overseas players are currently busy playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025. They can go for the likes of Jonny Bairstow, Dewald Brevis and others.

Earlier, Kagiso Rabada returned home due to personal reasons. Currently, GT have five overseas players in their squad. Gerald Coetzee and Karim Janat are yet to be tested. In the last three games, they've been playing with three overseas players.

GT on top, Rutherford over Phillips in early games

GT are currently leading the points table with four wins from five games and a better net run rate (NRR) than undefeated Delhi Capitals (DC). In the first five games, they preferred Sherfane Rutherford over Phillips in the middle-order for power-hitting. Rutherford has scored 136 runs from five innings. More importantly, he scores at a strike rate of 178.94.
