Vaibhav Suryavanshi tonked a historic ton in RR's win over GT

The record-breaking century crafted by 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday night was more than just historic knock, it's the culmination of years filled with unseen hardships, all held together by an unyielding self-belief.

At the tender age of 14 years and 32 days, the young batting prodigy from Birah shattered the record for the youngest player to score a century in the IPL. Moreover, his explosive knock was also the second-fastest century ever recorded in the tournament's history, achieved in a mere 35 deliveries.

The Indian Premier League 2025 has witnessed the emergence of its most significant revelation thus far in the form of the 14-year-old power hitter from Rajasthan Royals. It was his knock which made the tough task look easy in the IPL 2025 clash against Gujarat Titans. RR chased down the 210-run target with 25 balls and eight wickets to spare.

However, his ascent to fame and the journey towards securing an IPL contract was far from easy. In a conversation with the Indian Premier League, the young batsman humbly acknowledged the unwavering dedication and profound sacrifices made by his parents, attributing his current success entirely to their support and efforts. He shared the extent of his family's sacrifices, revealing how his mother diligently wakes up at 2 AM, despite managing only around three hours of sleep, to prepare his meals and ensure he gets to his practice sessions. Moreover, his father, who was previously the family's sole provider, made the significant decision to give up his job to fully support Vaibhav's burgeoning cricket career, while his elder brother has stepped forward to shoulder the responsibility of financially supporting the family.

"I am what I am because of my parents. My mother, for the sake of my practice schedule, wakes up at 3 in the morning after going to sleep at 11, sleeping barely three hours. She then prepares meals for me. My father left his work to support me. My elder brother is taking care of his work and the household is running with great difficulty. But papa is backing me," Vaibhav Suryavanshi said in a video posted by IPL.

"I want to contribute for India and I have to work hard for that. I cannot stop working hard till I achieve that level. I will try to do well for the country," he added.

He also thanked RR head coach Rahul Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathour and Team manager Romi Bhinder for giving him the big stage to perform.

"I was preparing for this moment for a long time and I am happy that it worked out the way I wanted. In the trials, I batted well and there was (batting coach) Vikram (Rathour) sir and (team manager) Romi (Bhinder) sir who said we will try to pick you in the team. They introduced me to (head coach) Rahul (Dravid) sir. To be trained by Rahul sir is a dream come true and I get a lot of support from the other support staff and senior players, they give me confidence that I can do it. They always tell me that I can win it for the team. There is no pressure of what will happen next because they motivate me," Suryavanshi further stated.
