Hardik Pandya admitted that Gujarat Titans (GT) gave him the taste of his own medicine after Mumbai Indians (MI) suffered a 36-run defeat in their IPL 2025 clash at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on March 29. With this Gujarat Titans maintained their winning streak against Mumbai Indians in Ahmedabad in IPL.
Hardik Pandya put on a show with the as he bowled a splendid spell of 2/29. However, it couldn't stop GT batters from posting a daunting total of 196/8. In reply, despite Suryakumar Yadav's 28-ball 48 MI were bundled out for just 160/6 to suffer their second defeat in a row.
We were not professional: Hardik Pandya after MI's defeat against GT
After the match, Hardik Pandya said that what he did to GT batters, Shubman Gill-led side did the same to him. Hardik made the best use of variable bounce in the Ahmedabad pitch, which helped him take the prized wickets of Shubman Gill and Shahrukh Khan. GT bowlers executed the same plan and trapped MI batters in the same web. Prasidh Krishna remained the wrecker-in-chief for GT who grabbed the key wickets of the dangerous-looking Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma (39 off 36). Mohammed Siraj too chipped in with 2/34.
While ruing MI's second successive defeat, Hardik admitted that they were far from professional in the field that cost them 20-25 runs which made the difference in the match.
"Tough to put (down where it went wrong). There were errors, we were not quite professional in the field - that cost us maybe 20-25 runs. They (the GT openers) did the right stuff in the powerplay, they did not play high-risk shots, they got enough runs (playing that way) and that put us on the back foot. Early stage, but at the same time, batters have to come to the party and hopefully they do that soon. I was just thinking I bowled way too many balls, they saw it was gripping and those were the toughest balls to score off. When you have this much variable bounce, it becomes difficult as a batter. They did the same to me (what I did as a bowler)," Hardik said in the post-match presentation.
Mumbai are still in search of their first win in the ongoing IPL 2025. They went down to CSK by four wickets in their campaign opener before going down to GT. Meanwhile, GT made amends after their loss against Punjab Kings in their first match,
GT will now take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 2, while MI's next match will be against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 31.
