Royal Challengers Bengaluru star batter Virat Kohli endured a difficult outing during Sunday's IPL 2026 clash against the Mumbai Indians in Raipur, where he was dismissed for a golden duck. Kohli completely miscued a delivery from Deepak Chahar, resulting in a simple catch for Raj Angad Bawa at mid-off. This marked the superstar's second consecutive duck, following a scoreless appearance in his previous match against the Lucknow Super Giants. This is only the second time in Kohli's storied IPL career that he has recorded back-to-back ducks, with the first instance occurring in 2022 against LSG and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Despite the early breakthrough, the Mumbai Indians managed to reach 166 for seven after being sent in to bat. The innings was anchored by Tilak Varma, who scored a composed 57 off 42 deliveries. MI faced early trouble, slipping to 28/3 within the first three overs, but a vital 82-run partnership between Varma and Naman Dhir—who contributed 47—helped steady the ship. However, once the pair was separated, the Mumbai side struggled to find their rhythm against a disciplined Bengaluru bowling attack.

The standout performer with the ball for RCB was Bhuvneshwar Kumar, whose masterful spell yielded impressive figures of four for 23. His clinical execution at the death ensured that Mumbai could not capitalize on their middle-order recovery. Supporting Bhuvneshwar were Josh Hazlewood, Rasikh Salam Dar, and Romario Shepherd, who each claimed a wicket to keep the pressure on and restrict Mumbai to a manageable total.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar attributed his clinical performance to meticulous planning and disciplined execution following his standout four-wicket haul. The veteran seamer proved to be a decisive factor with the new ball, dismantling the Mumbai Indians' top and middle order by removing Ryan Rickelton, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma. Finishing with impressive figures of 4/23, he expertly navigated a surface characterized by variable bounce and movement to keep the opposition in check.
