Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali reckoned that India captain Rohit Sharma had dropped after the batter failed to perform in the first innings during the first Test match against New Zealand at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. India's captain just scored two runs. Apart from Rohit, Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin got out on a duck. India bundled out on just 46 runs which was the lowest Test total in home soil by Men in Blue.
Rohit got out when he tried to execute his strokes at the top, he tried hitting a cover drive against Southee. But the ball nipped back to breach Rohit's defence and hit the top of the leg stump.
"The fielding was not up to mark. It was a bad shot from Rohit. I feel Rohit's reflexes have gone slightly weak both in batting and slip," said Basit Ali on his YouTube channel.
Coming back to the match, After bowling out India on 46 runs, New Zealand scored 402 runs in the first innings where Devon Conway scored 91, Rachin Ravindra scored 134 runs and Tim Southee scored 65. For India, Rishabh Pant (13) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (20) are the only batters who scored double-digit runs.
Rachin Ravindra hit 134 as New Zealand were bowled out for 402 in their first innings for a lead of 356 runs against India on the third day of the opening Test.
Ravindra scored his runs off 157 balls with 13 fours and four sixes, while Tim Southee made a fine 65 to add 137 for the eighth wicket with the former, adding to India's woes after they were all out for an embarrassing 46 in the first essay.
For India, Ravindra Jadeja took 3/72, Kuldeep Yadav grabbed 3/99 while Mohammed Siraj claimed two wickets.
Earlier, Rohit failed to perform in India's last Test series against Bangladesh where he just scored 42 runs in four innings.
