Shubman Gill took the cricketing world by storm after hammering a magnificent double century which came handy in India's 12-run victory over New Zealand in the first ODI of the three-match series in Hyderabad on Wednesday (January 18).

Gill, who cracked 208 off 149, became the youngest batter to hit a double ton in ODIs as he joined the Indian double centurion club which features Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan.

Meanwhile, Gill's double cent left the Twitter flooded with string of praise pouring in which was led by former India's star all-rounder and 2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh who wrote ,"200 in a one day game !! At such a young age incredible ✊✊✊ unbelievable!! A very proud day for me and shubmans dad !!!congratulations @ShubmanGill. The whole country is proud of you 👏 🇮🇳 #NZvsIND"

In the post match press conference Gill also put forth his thoughts on his mentor Yuvraj's emotional tweet.

"Yuvi paaji has been a mentor to me, like a big brother. During lockdown and after that as well, he kept talking to me about batting. My dad has been my primary coach since I started playing cricket. Making Yuvi paaji and my dad proud is a special feeling."

Gill struck 19 fours and six maximums in his blitzkrieg and helped India post a colossal total of 349/8. The 23-year-old also revealed that he wanted to break free a lot sooner while his knock but had to rein himself with wickets tumbling at the other end.

“Once in England, I think I hit six sixes in seven balls. (Here) I was itching to unleash myself (earlier), but with wickets falling at regular intervals, it was important for me and this was the message from the dressing room that I have to bat till the end. I had to contain myself and play more in a safe way,” Gill said.
