Cricket Australia (CA) have named Josh Inglis as captain for the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan. Before making his T20I captaincy debut, Inglis will lead Australia in the third and final ODI of the series as senior players will leave to prepare for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Skipper Pat Cummins alongside Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith will not play the third and final ODI at Perth Stadium on November 10. In their absence, pacers Spencer Johnson, Xavier Bartlett, Lance Morris and wicketpeer Josh Phillippe have been added to the ODI squad.
Meanwhile, Hazlewood who missed the series opener to play in Sheffield Shield has joined the squad for the second ODI at Adelaide Oval against Mohammad Rizwan-led side. For now, Bartlett is a travelling reserve.
Inglis will be Australia's 30th ODI and 14th T20I captain. He was chosen for the role ahead of Matt Short, Adam Zampa, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis.
"Josh is an integral member of the ODI and T20I teams and a highly respected player on and off the field,"said chief selector George Bailey on October 6.
"He has led Australia A previously and will bring strong tactical nous and a positive approach to the role.
"Josh will receive great support from the likes of Matt Short and Adam Zampa, along with senior players including Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis."
