Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain, who was appointed as Madhya Pradesh captain ahead of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26, has started the tournament with a maiden First Class double hundred in their tournament opener against Punjab at Emerald Heights International School Ground in Indore.
Patidar's highest Ranji Trophy score
Patidar, who was appointed as Shubam's sucessor to lead the state team, reached the 200-run mark on the 328th ball of his innings. With this, he bettered his best previous best First Class score, a 196 he scored against Tamil Nadu in the 2018 Ranji season.
Patidar's knock shifted the momentum of the game
Patidar came to bat at number five when Madhya Pradesh were in a spot of bother at 155 for four, in response to Punjab’s first-innings total of 232. Patidar joined Venkatesh Iyer to shift the momentum of the game, smashing a much-needed century stand to pull the host out of trouble and gain the first-innings lead.
Earlier, on Day 2, Patidar played an unbeaten 107* off 185 deliveries, guided Madhya Pradesh to 305 for 6 at stumps, giving them a 73-run lead over Punjab’s first-innings total of 232.
Patidar to make Test comeback?
Patidar, who made his Test debut against England in 2024, has played three Tests so far, where he managed to score 63 runs in six innings. The MP batter has charted a resurgence in Tests since the start of the last Ranji Trophy season. Patidar emerged as MP’s highest run-scorer, amassing 529 runs at an average of 48.09, including one century and two fifties. He also led MP to a runner-up finish in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy while setting the batting charts on fire.
Earlier this year, the batter captained Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
