After 3-year absence, Madhura Dhamangaonkar bags gold at Archery World Cup stage 2, five medals for India at event

The Indian contingent bagged five medals in Archery World Cup stage 2 in Shanghai, including two gold, one silver and two bronze.

India emerged victoriously at the Archery World Cup Stage 2 in Shanghai. The Indian contingent has bagged five medals, including two gold, silver and two bronze. 

Madhura Dhamangaonkar won the gold medal with a 139-138 win against USA's Carson Krahe.  Madhura entered the tournament as unranked in the World Archery rankings. She had not competed at the international level for three years. At one point, she was trailing by 81-85 Towards the end, she won the gold medal with two perfect 10s. 

Men's team wins gold

The men's compound team features Abhishek Sharma, Ojas Deotale and a young Rishabh Yadav. India beat Mexico 232-228 in a nerve-wracking encounter to clinch the gold medal.

Later, the 22-year-old Rishabh also won a medal in the individual event. He beat South Korea's Kim Jongho in a shoot-off to claim bronze medal.

Women's team bags silver

The women's found team came up short against the Mexican side. Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Dhamangaonkar, and Chikitha Taniparthi lost by 221-234 and settled for a silver medal.

Bronze for mixed team

In the compound mixed team event, Abhishek Verma and Madhura Dhamangaonkar missed out the final but won the bronze medal with a win over Malaysia in a low-scoring encounter. 

Promising signs India ahead of LA Olympics 2028

These results are promising for India as far as their preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics are concerned. The coumpound archery is set to make its debut at the Olympics. There will be a mixed team category where India can eye a historic medal at the games.
