Pant was Delhi Capitals highest run-getter in IPL 2024.

Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) rolled out the retention guidelines before heading into the mega auctions of cash-rich league 2025. The teams have been asked to submit their list of retained players by October 31. Fans have started guessing their favourite cricketers and their IPL franchises. Now Delhi Capitals (DC) co-owner Parth Jindal caused quite a stir with his statement to the media.

DC co-owner confirmed the spot of Indian wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant. Pant has made a memorable comeback to cricket after recovering from a near fatal accident in December 2022.

“Yes, we definitely have to retain. We have some very good players in our team. The rules have just come out, so after discussing with GMR and our director of cricket, Sourav Ganguly, decisions will be made. Rishabh Pant will definitely be retained,” Jindal said, as heard in the video shared by IANS on X.

“We also have Axar Patel, who is excellent, Triston Stubbs, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Kuldeep Yadav, Abishek Porel, Mukesh Kumar,  and Khaleel Ahmed, all very good players in our team. We’ll see what happens in the auction. But first, as per the rule, we can retain six players. After discussions, we will proceed with the auction and see what happens,” he added.

The IPL Governing Council has announced that teams can now retain up to six players, including a maximum of five capped players and two uncapped players, either through retention or by using the Right to Match (RTM) option.

For IPL 2025, the auction purse has been set at INR 120 crore, while the total salary cap will increase to INR 146 crore. In a historic move, a match fee of INR 7.5 lakhs per player will be introduced. Additionally, overseas players are required to register for the auction, and there will be penalties for those who withdraw after being selected.
