Later Taijul Islam's fifer rattles SA batters.

Star Bangladesh bowler Taijul Islam single-handedly led the fightback of the Bangladesh cricket team in the first Test match against South Africa which is being played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. After the hosts were bowled out for their 5th lowest Test total at home, their bowlers did not allow the Proteas to gain much control of the match by picking up six wickets before the stumps on Day 1.

Bangladesh get all out on 106

Bangladesh registered their fifth-lowest Test score at home when they were bowled out for a paltry total of 106. Bangladesh's first innings lasted barely 40.1 overs, demonstrating their inability to withstand the superior pace and spin bowling attacks. Their top scorer on an otherwise disappointing scorecard was opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who struck 30 after facing 97 deliveries in the first innings. At the Shere Bangla National Stadium, big guns like skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (7), Mushfiqur Rahim (11), Litton Das (1), and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (13), among others, were unable to pose much of a threat to the visitors.

Their lowest Test score at home came against the West Indies back in 2002, when they got all out for just 87. In only three home Test matches, Bangladesh have been bowled out for less than 100 runs.

Taijul Islam leads Bangladesh's fightback

After Hasan Mahmud dismissed Proteas captain Aiden Markram in the very first over of their innings, it was clear that Bangladesh would not let SA have a walk in the park. After Mahmud, it was all Taijul Islam as he picked up a stunning five-wicket haul and rattled the SA batting line-up.

He also became the second bowler in Bangladesh's history to have more 200 or more Test wickets. Shakib Al Hasan was the first bowler from the country to reach the milestone. At the end of Stumps Day 1, SA have been reduced to 140/6. They currently only have a lead of 34 runs. Bangladesh will be eyeing to bowl them out quickly and bounce back with big total in the second innings.
