The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the All-India senior men selection committee comprising of Chairman Chetan Sharma, Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola and Sridharan Sharath.
The Cricket Advistory Committee (CAC) comprising of Sulakshana Naik, Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape had earlier shortlisted 11 individuals for interviews. Chetan retained his place as the chairman of the senior men's selection committee.
BCCI had earlier received as many as 600 applications since posting about the five posts on their official website on November 18, 2022.
Numbers of new members of selection committee
Sunder Das played 23 Tests and scored 1,326 runs from 40 innings at an average of 34.89 including two centuries and nine half-centuries. He played in four ODIs but scored just 39 runs. His First-Class record is impressive. The 45-year-old scored 10,908 runs from 298 innings at an average of 38.68 including 24 centuries and 52 half-centuries.
Patna-born Banerjee had a short career. He played one Test and six ODIs. The pacer took five wickets with the white-ball whereas three in his only Test appearance. He has 135 wickets and 1,200 runs from 59 First-Class matches.
Once touted as the next big thing, pacer Ankola played just one Test and 20 ODIs. He took 13 wickets in ODIs at an average of 47.30 and two wickets in his only Test appearance. In his First-Class career, he took 181 wickets from 54 games including eight five-wicket hauls.
Sharath is considered as one of the unluckiest batters who did not get to make their Test or ODI debut as they played in the era of greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman. The Tamil Nadu batter has scored 8,700 runs at an average of 51.17 including 27 centuries and 42 half-centuries. In the List A (One-Day) format, he has 3,366 runs to his name at an average of 44.28 including four centuries and 20 half-centuries.
