Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq backed Babar Azam after the star batter got sacked from the T20I squad against New Zealand. Babar lost his spot from the T20I squad after the team's poor show in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Defending champions and hosts Pakistan got out of the tournament without winning a single group-stage match.

Inzamam-ul-Haq believes that Babar is a top player he is going through a rough patch but the whole team is not able to perform.

"Babar Azam is a top player. Everyone goes through a rough patch, but the national team hasn't been playing good cricket for the past few months," he said as quoted by PTI.

"Trust the management and the players, and work together to identify where the mistakes are," he said.

To a question about the role of the stars from the 1990s and the impact they had, Inzamam made it clear that the players from that era will hold a special place in Pakistan cricket.

"If we look at the players from the 90s generation, Pakistan cricket would lose its strength without them," he concluded.

Babar will now be seen featuring in the ODI series against New Zealand. After finishing the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, the Mohammad Rizwan-led side will play a three-match ODI series which is scheduled to start from March 29.
