Harleen, Tejal's fifties help India A beat England A in One-Day series opener by 7 wickets

India A chased down the target of 223 with seven wickets in hand and 24 balls left in the run chase to take a 1-0 lead in the One-Day series.

India A registered a comprehensive seven-wicket win over England A in the One-Day series opener in Hove on June 28. After India A bowlers restricted England A to 222/6, skipper Harleen Deol and Tejal Hasabnis' fifties helped the visitors chase down the target with four overs to spare.

Scrivens, Charis score 50s but no threatening total from England

Earlier, Harleen won the toss and opted to bowl first. Jintimani Kalita struck early as Jodi Grewcock got caught behind the stumps by Uma Chetry for a single-digit score in the sixth over. Ella McCaughan couldn't capitalise on the start she got. The opener was caught at slip in the 14th over after scoring 25 runs from 47 balls. In the 24th over, she struck twice to dismiss Davina Perrin and skipper Kira Chathli.

Grace Scrivens and Charis Pavely shared a crucial 109-run partnership for the fifth wicket. But, they couldn't accelerate in the slog overs. Shabnim Shakil got Charis caught behind for an 84-ball 54. She went for a ramp shot but couldn't get enough back on it. Scrivens went on to bat till the final over. Skipper Harleen pulled off a stunning catch as Sayali Satghare got her first wicket of the match. The top-order batter scored 84 runs from 118 balls, including six fours. In the end, Abi Norgrove and Chloe Skelton's cameos helped England A post 222/6.

India chase down target with ease

In the run chase, Priya Punia attacked. She hit five fours before getting caught at long leg by Abi off Charley Phillips' bowling in the eighth over. Priya scored 23 runs from 26 balls. Pratika Rawal missed her half-century. In the 20th over, she was caught behind off Charis' bowling. Her knock featured eight boundaries.

Harleen and Tejal took control of the run chase. The captain completed her half-century from 66 balls. She missed a chance to finish the game and was caught by substitute fielder off Grace Ballinger's bowling. She scored 53 runs from 76 balls.

Tejal and Niki Prasad ensured India's run chase is not derailed. Tejal remained unbeaten on 57 off 71 balls. On the other end, Niki scored 28 runs from 33 balls as India finished the run chase with 24 balls to spare and seven wickets in hand.

India A took a 1-0 lead in the series. The next One-Day will be played on July 1 in Taunton. Earlier, India A won the T20 series 2-1.
