Ravichandran Ashwin wants Dhruv Jurel to play in India's upcoming Test matches

Jurel scored a brilliant century in the 1st Test against West Indies

Former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin feels that Dhruv Jurel should be a regular member in the Men in Blue's Test team after his fine hundred against West Indies. With Rishabh Pant absent from the playing XI due to injury, Jurel made the most out of his opportunity and went on to register his maiden hundred in the format to help the side in posting a formidable first-inning total of 448/5 on the board.

Though Ashwin wants Jurel to get more chances in the playing XI, he himself pointed out that the latter will not be getting preferred over Rishabh Pant once he is back from injury.

“I don’t doubt Dhruv Jurel’s class, because against England, the way he played in Ranchi, those innings alone showed that Dhruv should be playing the next 10 Test matches. But because Rishabh Pant is there, he can keep Dhruv Jurel out of the side," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

“So, Dhruv Jurel’s class and pedigree, again, no doubt. Dhruv Jurel, as the second wicketkeeper for India, is also a lock. I think, when we reach a certain stage, Dhruv Jurel will play as a batter for the Indian team as well," he added.

How many Tests has Jurel played so far?

Jurel has so far featured in a total of six Tests in his career so far, scoring 380 runs including a century and fifty each. He made his debut in a Test against England in February, 2024 but hasn't been able to get a lot of chancves as Pant is India's first-choice keeper. He will be hoping to continue his impressive form when he comes up against the West Indian bowling attack in the second Test.

Meanwhile, India will have the chance of completing a clean sweep over West Indies if they record a victory in the second Test that is set to commence from October 10 at the Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi. A win in this match may also see the Men in Blue improve their position on the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.
