Ashwin will be featuring in the upcoming season of Big Bash League

Former Australia captain Michael Clarke hopes for BCCI to allow more Indian players to participate in the Big Bash League (BBL) following Ravichandran Ashwin's signing to Sydney Thunder. The former India cricketer is set to feature in the next season of the Australia-based T20 league and he will be a part of the franchise led by David Warner. With this, Ashwin became the first-ever Indian play to sign with a BBL franchise in the tournament's history.

His presence will definitely drive a lot of fans to the stadiums and he will also help in increasing the league's star power. Clarke wants more Indian players to play in the tournament in the future.

"Ravi [Ashwin] has been an amazing player for India and in the IPL, and he’s done a lot for the game. So, I think to have him come and now play in Australian domestic league, the BBL, I am hoping it opens the door not only if you retire from playing for India and now come and play, I am hoping there’s a possibility somehow, say there’s a player who’s not involved in the Indian Test series but the BBL is on. I am hoping the BCCI will slowly open that door so the players can keep playing cricket,” Clarke said on the Beyond23 Cricket podcast.

Clarke's remarks on the Asia Cup final

Clarke further shared his views on the India-Pakistan Asia Cup final and remarked that he isn't surprised at all with the Men in Blue winning the trophy. He was also really impressed with how Suryakumar Yadav & Co. played throughout the tournament, proving why they were deemed as the favourites to win. Notably, India won all their games in the tournament and were in a league of their own.

"It’s great they [Pakistan] made the finals. There’s no doubt about it, but I think the reality is India’s got the measure of them. I think India dominated that whole Asia Cup… They were the favorites, and I am not surprised they won. I think the most impressive thing from India’s perspective is how they won. They knew they were the favorites, and they played that way," Clarke stated.

Who will India be facing next in T20Is?

Meanwhile, with the Asia Cup now concluded, India will be shifting their focus on their next T20I assignment which will be a five-match series against Australia that will commence from October 29. Before this, the Men in Blue will also be playing a three-match ODI series against the Baggy Greens that will begin from October 19.
