As per a report from the Times of India, LSG approached Laxman and had a casual conversation about their plans for the IPL coaching team for the 2025 season. Laxman only has one other experience of working with an IPL team was during his time as a mentor of the Sunrisers Hyderabad between 2013 and 2021. The same report states that the former cricketer is not willing to continue his role as NCA head having shifted base to Hyderabad. The contract is likely to end by September and he has already been approached by a couple of franchises.

Reportedly, He had previously been approached by the BCCI to be the successor of Rahul Dravid as head coach of the Indian team. According to reports, Laxman was their first choice, but he turned it down because he didn't want to travel so much with the team.

The report also stated that former India batting coach Vikram Rathour is likely to succeed Laxman as NCA Head. Rathour has been a part of the BCCI for a long time. After being hired as a national selector for North Zone in 2012, he went on to become a batting coach for the Indian team from 2019 to June 2024.
