ICC confirms that UAE will be hosting the mega tournament.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that the upcoming edition of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 will be moved out of Bangladesh and the tournament will instead be played in UAE. The cricket's top governing body has taken this decision keeping in mind the safety of their players and the current condition in Bangladesh which are a result of the civil crisis. However, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will continue to be the host of the tournament which is set to be held in October. Dubai and Sharjah will be the two venues for this mega tournamen tournament will be played in UAE from 3 to 20 October.

"It is a shame not to be hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh as we know the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would have staged a memorable event. I would like to thank the team at the BCB for exploring all avenues to try and enable the event to be hosted in Bangladesh, but travel advisories from the governments of a number of the participating teams meant that wasn’t feasible," ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said in a statement.

"However, they will retain hosting rights. We look forward to taking an ICC global event to Bangladesh in the near future. I’d also like to thank the Emirates Cricket Board for stepping in to host on behalf of the BCB and Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe for their generous offers of support, and we look forward to seeing ICC global events in both of those countries in 2026," he added.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE), where the International Cricket Council (ICC) is headquartered, has emerged as a significant cricket hub in recent years. It hosted the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2021 alongside Oman. UAE is also well-equipped to host the Women's Twenty20 World Cup thanks to its world-class facilities and infrastructure. The rise of the country's men's and women's teams, which are currently ranked 16th in the ICC T20I Team Rankings, demonstrates the country's growing prominence in the sport.
