Josh Hazlewood opened up on his retirement plans

Hazlewood likely to play massive role in The Ashes

Despite being in a great form especially in Test cricket, there have been a lot of speculations regarding the retirement of Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood. The 34-year-old has so far featured for the Baggy Greens in 76 Tests, 93 ODIs and 55 T20Is. He has been a mainstay in the side's Test and one-day set-up for several years and is currently one of the most experienced players in the team.

Recently, Australia speedster Mitchell Starc had called time on his T20I career so the side definitely wouldn't want another top bowler to announce his retirement from any of the three formats. Now, Hazlewood has opened up on his retirement plans and has stated that he isn't in a position to say anything as he still loves playing Test cricket.

"I don't think we're in a position now to say anything, but I think you might sit back at the end and have a think about it. I think everyone still loves the format of Test cricket. There's plenty of Tests coming up in the next two years. There's another cycle of the World Test Championship so there's a lot of things still exciting about Test Cricket, not just the Ashes. I think we've still got a few more games left in us yet," Hazlewood said as quoted by SEN Radio.

Hazlewood also expressed confidence in the next generation of Australian speedsters and remarked that there is no shortage of quality fast bowlers in the country.

"I probably don't want to name names, but I think there's been a lot coming through the white-ball system in the last few years. We've got good Shield bowlers at every state, and I think it's just a matter of opportunity once they get their chance in Test colours. In that format, I think they'll do a great job so there's never any shortage of fast bowlers around Australia, I don't think," Hazlewood added.

Hazlewood expected to be in action against India

Meanwhile, unlike both Starc and Pat Cummins, who have taken a break from cricket in order to manage their workload properly ahead of The Ashes, Hazlewood is still featuring in white-ball cricket for Australia. The 34-year-old was recently seen in action during both the T20I and ODI series against South Africa and is expected to also play in the white-ball assignment against India which will commence from October 19.
