Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 will be hosted by Australia.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) star Nitish Kumar Reddy will likely to get picked in India's Test squad for the upcoming tour of Australia. India will play five Test matches against Australia scheduled to start from November 22. Reddy who made his India debut in the recently concluded T20I series against Bangladesh will be picked as a seam-bowling all-rounder.

As per Indian Express, Ajit Agarkar-led five-member selection committee is looking at him as a seam-bowling all-rounder Down Under this time.

The senior selection committee is expected to meet in Pune after the second Test between India and New Zealand. The Indian team is expected to depart for Perth on November 10.

"It is understood that selectors will also discuss the inclusion of Shardul Thakur, who played a key role in the famous Gabba Test in 2022. Thakur has returned from injury and is playing for Mumbai in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. He played a crucial role in Mumbai winning last season’s Ranji Trophy. It is understood that it could well come down to Reddy and Thakur vying for one spot. Reddy is seen as an all-rounder for the future, who has the potential to even play long format" added the report

The 33-year-old Shardul has not been part of the Indian squad since the last tour to South Africa in December 2023, but he has been performing consistently in domestic cricket.

The upcoming A series against Australia could be pivotal for Reddy. As a member of the India A team set to play two first-class matches on October 31 and November 7, selectors are eager to assess his ability to handle the workload of bowling 10-15 overs each day. Additionally, he will have an opportunity to impress the team management during the intra-squad practice match scheduled before the first Test.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is set to kick off on November 22. The second Test will take place in Adelaide starting December 6, followed by the third Test at the Gabba on December 14. The fourth Test is scheduled for December 26 at the MCG, and the series will conclude with the final Test at the SCG on January 3.
