Bangladesh defeat Australia by 86 runs via DLS method.

In the ODI series opener, young Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana gave Australia’s stand-in captain Josh Inglis a fiery send-off. Inglis wasn’t pleased with it and a few words to say before Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz and others intervened and prevented the situation from escalating any further. As Bangladesh registered an 86-run win via DLS method, their second against Australia in ODI history, wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey was asked to comment on the verbal spat between Inglis and Rana. Carey doused the flames by saying that ‘a bit of spice’ is what Australian cricketers want.

"I think that's what we want in cricket, a bit of spice," said Carey in the post-match press conference. "You don't want to take it over the edge, clearly, but I thought that's two players getting into the contest."

Inglis had hit Rana for a few boundaries earlier in the contest. The pacer dismissed Inglis with a back of the length delivery. He got out caught behind and became Rana's first victim of the evening. Inglis scored 19 runs from 25 balls. Rana was able to break the partnership for the third wicket.

Carey hopes to keep Rana ‘out of the game’

Carey arrived at the crease after Inglis' wicket. He stitched partnership with Cooper Connolly and Cameron Green before losing his wicket to Rana for a 62-ball 47 in the 29th over. The wicketkeeper admitted that Australia batters weren’t able to keep the express pacer out of the game.

"Clearly he was a standout tonight with a bit of extra bounce on a wicket that allowed that pace and bounce," Carey said.

"He bowled really well. I think we all knew the pace (he had), but I guess until you face it first-hand – he's a really tall athlete and gets a bit of bounce as well. He bowled really well is what I will say … we just weren't able to keep him out of the game.

"We've got now a chance to play against him in the next two ODIs here on Thursday and Sunday. Hopefully we can keep him out of the series from now on."

Rana to make BBL debut for Adelaide Strikers?

On a lighter note, Carey also talked about getting Rana to his Big Bash League (BBL) team Adelaide Strikers. He feels that the Bangladesh pacer will get much assistance from the Adelaide wicket.

When will Australia-Bangladesh play the second ODI?

In the series opener, Rana took four wickets for 41 runs. Their previous ODI win over Australia came in June 2005. A second-string Australia and a high-on-confidence Bangladesh will lock horns again on June 11 in the second ODI of the series.
