Story Highlights:

Devajit Saikia shared a big update on the Asia Cup trophy controversy

Saikia feels that the trophy will reach the BCCI's office in a day or two

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia is optimistic that the Asia Cup trophy will reach the BCCI's headquarters in Mumbai within a day or two after being in Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi's grasp since the final took place in September. Despite deservedly coming out victorious in the Asia Cup final, the Men in Blue were not handed the trophy in the post-match ceremony. Notably, Suryakumar Yadav & Co. had refused to take the trophy from Naqvi, who is also the chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and had to go back to their hotel empty-handed.

Naqvi has already said that the Indian team can collect the trophy from ACC's office in Dubai, but has also insisted on presenting it himself. Saikia has now expressed his unhappiness over the matter and revealed that BCCI had written to the ACC chief about 10 days ago, but they are not in any mood to change their stance. However, he then assured that the trophy will reach Mumbai in the next 1-2 days.

“Yes, we are a little bit unhappy with the way the trophy has not been being given to us even after a month. We are pursuing this matter, about 10 days ago also we wrote a letter to the chairman of ACC, but there is no change in their stand. They are still keeping the trophy under their custody but we hope that the trophy will reach us in a day or two at the BCCI office in Mumbai,' Saikia told PTI Videos.

BCCI to bring the issue up in ICC's meet?

Saikia also mentioned that if the trophy is not handed over to BCCI soon, then they will bring up the issue in the International Cricket Council's (ICC) upcoming quarterly meeting that will take place in Dubai on November 4.

“On behalf of BCCI we are fully prepared how to deal with the matter and I can assure the people of India that the trophy will come back to India, only the timeline is not fixed. One day it will come," Saikia stated.

“We have won all matches against Pakistan and won the trophy. We have won the championship. Everything is on record. Only the trophy is missing. I hope good sense will prevail," he added.

India celebrated without the trophy

Meanwhile, the post-match ceremony after the Asia Cup final between India and Pakistan was delayed by over an hour after the Men in Blue had refusewd to collect the trophy from Naqvi. Though the ceremony eventually did took place, the Indian team weren't handed the trophy and were seen celebrating without it on the stage. It remains to be seen when Team India will finally get their hands on the trophy that they deservedly won.
