Story Highlights:

Gautam Gambhir turned 44 on October 14.

Gautam Gambhir will now travel to Australia for white ball series.

India's World Cup-winning all-rounder, who is known for his unique birthday wishes, came up with arguably the best birthday message for head coach Gautam Gambhir, who celebrated his 44th birthday on October 14 2025. Yuvraj referenced Gambhir's aggressive nature both on and off the field, saying that same intensity has carried over into his tenure as India's head coach.

Yuvraj Singh, who featured alongside Gambhir in the 2011 ODI World Cup, took his 'X', formerly known as Twitter shared a video to wish Gambhir on his 44th birthday and suggested that he keep up the great work.

"Wishing a very happy birthday to the one who was Gambhir when he played for India and is now even more Gambhir while coaching for India! Lots of love, brother. Keep up the great work and have a lovely year ahead!" Yuvraj wrote.

Gambhir responded to the message, thanking "Prince" Yuvraj – a nod to his nickname from their playing days.

Gambhir's contribution in India's 2011 World Cup win

Gambhir was at his peak during the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, finishing as the sixth-leading run-getter and second for his team with 393 runs in nine innings at an average of 43.66, with four fifties, including a 122-ball 97 against Sri Lanka in the final to chase down 275 in front of a packed Wankhede in Mumbai and won the title after 28 years.

Gambhir's achievements as India's head coach

During his coaching tenure, he has already watched India lift the Champions Trophy, draw the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and win the Asia Cup.  Notably, India's wins at the Champions Trophy and Asia Cup ended on an unbeaten note. Gambhir's upcoming assignment will be the upcoming white ball series against Australia, which will start from October 19. India are scheduled to play a three-match ODI series and a five-match T20I against Australia.
