'Your trademark smile will be missed': Virat Kohli pens heartfelt note for retired Shikhar Dhawan

A day after Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, his former teammate Virat Kohli penned down a heartfelt note. Kohli hailed Dhawan for making a fearless Test debut and thanked him for the memories. Kohli believes Dhawan's legacy will live on and wished him the best for life after retirement.
 

“Shikhar @SDhawan25 from your fearless debut to becoming one of India's most dependable openers, you've given us countless memories to cherish. Your passion for the game, your sportsmanship and your trademark smile will be missed, but your legacy lives on. Thank you for the memories, unforgettable performances and always leading with your heart. Wishing you the best in your next innings, off the field Gabbar!” Kohli wrote on X.
 

Not just the Indian team, Kohli and Dhawan played together for Delhi since they were teenagers. Dhawan also called Kohli the funniest player in the team.
 

"Virat Kohli is the funniest in the Indian team. I share a great bond & relationship with him we played together from childhood days," the southpaw told Hindustan Times.

Trio’s century of centuries

Dhawan also remembered his playing days for India in ODIs where they scored a century of centuries together in half a decade.
 

“We were part of a beautiful journey together. I clearly remember that Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and I scored 100 centuries in 5 years. Ravi bhai was our coach then. Even NCA has played such a huge role, understood how training and rehab is done whenever I got injured. And a big thank you to the BCCI as well,” said the 38-year-old.

Star trio’s dominance in IPL

Kohli, Dhawan and Rohit are also the top three run-scorers in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhawan scored 6,769 runs from 221 innings at an average of 35.25 including two centuries and 51 fifties. He is the second-highest run-scorer of the tournament.
