Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh in his birthday wish for Rishabh Pant has called the wicketkeeper-batsman “future captain of India”.

“Paaji mera Birthday aa gaya! Sab zor se bolo Happy Birthday. Janmadin Mubarak @rishabhpant ! Khoob mehnat karo aur taraki pao! All the best to the future captain of India and good luck for the IPL and T20 WC! Loads of love and good wishes,” Yuvraj wrote in a post on his Instagram.

Ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup, skipper Virat Kohli announced that he will be stepping down from the T20I captaincy after the quadrennial event. Kohli followed it up with another announcement saying that he will step down from Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) captaincy as well after the conclusion of ongoing IPL 2021.

Pant took over Delhi Capitals (DC) captaincy after Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of first leg of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 owing to his shoulder injury. Under the 24-year-old’s captaincy DC have already qualified for the playoffs for the third time in a row. They also have a chance to finish at the top or top two as DC play Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on October 4 and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on October 8.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be announcing the next captain after the mega event. Five-time champion and current defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma is expected to take over the captaincy in the short format.
