India captain Suryakumar Yadav said his team has checked almost every box in the group stage, but admitted they now face a “good headache” ahead of the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026.
Suryakumar Yadav on India's win
India signed off from the group phase with a 17-run win over the Netherlands, finishing top of Group A without losing a single match. But while the results have gone their way, Suryakumar believes there is still plenty to learn.
“We have ticked a lot of boxes. Even when you win, you learn a lot of things, and we did today,” he said after the match.

Suryakumar Yadav on India's challenges
India had their own challenges during the game. The top order struggled against Netherlands off-spinner Aryan Dutt, slipping to 69 for three in nine overs after choosing to bat first. However, Shivam Dube changed the mood of the innings with a powerful 66 off 31 balls, helping India recover and post 193 for six.
Suryakumar admitted that early wickets could be a concern in bigger games but backed his batting unit to respond.
“We might be in a similar situation again, but it’s important for the batters to understand their responsibility. We have firepower later in the order,” he said. “One or two players might have a great day, but we need contributions from everyone.”
Suryakumar Yadav on Shivam Dube's performance
Dube’s counter-attack in the middle overs was especially pleasing for the skipper. He recalled Dube’s earlier knock in Vizag against New Zealand and praised the all-rounder’s impact.
“When he played in Vizag, he had another good innings. He wanted the Player of the Match award that day too, but for us to reach 190 tonight, that knock was amazing,” Suryakumar said.
Suryakumar Yadav on new headache
India also used seven bowlers in the match, something the captain described as a welcome selection headache.
“Sometimes it is a good headache to have. We have a lot of options. On any given day, depending on what the wicket demands, they can chip in. I’m happy with the way things are moving,” he added.
With four wins in four games and multiple players stepping up at different times, India head into the Super 8 stage confident. The Men in Blue will face South Africa in their first T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 clash which will take place at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
