Cricket Australia (CA) on July 3 (Monday) announced the senior men's national team squad for the upcoming third Ashes Test match against England. In alliance with skipper Pat Cummins' comments after the conclusion of the second Test at Lord's, veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon has been ruled out with a torn calf. Young spinner Todd Murphy is in contention to replace Lyon in Australia's playing XI for Headingley Test.

David Warner, who scored a gritty half-century in challenging conditions on Day 1 of the Lord's Test, has been retained in Australia's squad. Matt Renshaw has been released from Australia's squad for Headingley Test but the left-handed batter will stay in the U.K. as a backup.

Talking about Murphy, the 22-year-old off-spinner gave a good account of his prowess during the Test series against India earlier in the year. Overall, Murphy has played four Tests in his nascent career so far and bagged 14 wickets in the process.

Australia squad for third men's Ashes Test: Pat Cummins (captain), Steven Smith (vice-captain), David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey (wk), Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Todd Murphy, Scott Boland, Michael Neser, Marcus Harris, Mitchell Marsh, Jimmy Peirson (wk)

The Baggy Greens took a commanding 2-0 lead against England after registering a fantastic 43-run victory in the recently-concluded Lord's Test. Cummins' men weathered Stokes' onslaught at the 'mecca of cricket' and doubled their lead in the series. Earlier, Australia won the Edgbaston Test by two wickets.

Meanwhile, England Cricket also announced the senior men's national team's squad for the upcoming third Ashes Test match against Australia. The Three Lions squad for the third Test consists of 15 players and all-rounder Moeen Ali has been retained despite missing the second match of the series. While Ali was retained, Rehan Ahmed and Matthew Potts were axed from the squad. The third Test match between England and Australia is scheduled to begin on July 6 at Headingley.
