Indian head coach Rahul Dravid has lavished praise on England's retiring pacer Stuart Broad, calling him an 'extraordinary cricketer'. He highlighted Broad's iconic partnership with James Anderson as an alliance that will be cherished in cricket's memory for a long time.

Broad, aged 37, unveiled his decision to retire from international cricket on Saturday, July 29, at the end of Day 3’s play during the ongoing fifth Test of Ashes 2023 at Kennington Oval, London.

"Stuart Broad has been an amazing bowler, truly outstanding. His alliance with Jimmy Anderson is something that will be etched in memory," Dravid on Stuart Broad's retirement from Test Cricket.

He continued by praising the duo, Anderson and Broad, for their exceptional performances representing England over the past decade. "Attaining 600 wickets and appearing in the number of Test matches he has is indicative of a particularly exceptional cricketer," Dravid added.

Broad made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in 2007. He has taken a total of 815 international wickets so far. He has played 167 Tests, 121 ODIs and 56 T20Is registering 602, 178 and 65 scalps so far. Broad has done well as a lower-order batter as well. He has scored over 3,650 runs including one century and 13 half-centuries.

Broad's best Test bowling performance came at Trent Bridge in Ashes 2015 when he took eight wickets for just 15 runs. Broad also became the first bowler to get hit for six sixes in an over T20Is. Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh achieved the feat in T20 World Cup 2007. However, three years later he was part of England's maiden T20 World Cup win. Also, he has been a part of four Ashes series wins.

The tall pacer also registered bowling figures of 5/5 against India at Trent Bridge in 2011. The economical fifer included the wickets of former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh and Praveen Kumar.

Dravid concluded by extending his best wishes and congratulating Broad on an impressive career. "I extend my heartiest congratulations and best wishes to him on his spectacular career. I trust he achieves the perfect ending to his career that he desires," he said.
