Sai Sudharsan shared his views after missing out on his maiden Test ton against West Indies

Sudharsan lost his wicket for 87 runs on Day 1 of the second Test

India batter Sai Sudharsan ended up missing out on his maiden Test century by just a whisker during the first day of the second Test against West Indies. He had come out to bat with the Men in Blue at 58/1 and went on to form a humongous partnership alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. The two left-hand batters smacked the opposing bowlers all around the Arun Jaitley stadium as India crossed the 200-run mark at the loss of just one wicket.

Jaiswal went on to score his seventh hundred of the longest format and did so after facing 145 deliveries. It looked as if Sudharsan would also end up reaching his first-ever Test century, but unfortunately he fell just 13 runs short and lost his wicket to Jomel Warrican in the 69th over. This wicket saw the end of the massive 193-run stand that had gotten the hosts into a strong position on the first day itself.

Sudharsan not entirely satisfied with his knock

After the conclusion of Day 1, Sudharsan shared his views on not being able to register his maiden Test ton and remarked that even though he did bat well, he isn't satisfied with his performance and wanted to get more runs.

"I am definitely grateful for whatever I've done today but there's always a monkey in our mind that wants more, wants that hundred and so I was looking forward to a lot more," Sudharsan told the broadcasters.

Sudharsan on his partnership with Jaiswal

Sudharsan also reflected on his partnership with Jaiswal and stated that it was 'fascinating' and 'thrilling' to watch the latter bat from the end as he played many exciting shots. Sudharsan also said that instead of looking to score runs on every delivery, he took his time on the crease and batted freely.

"It was a good contribution and very good partnership with (Yashasvi) Jaiswal. I was not thinking about getting runs, I was a bit more free and I expressed a bit better in this innings. I was able to take a bit more time and let things happen instead of trying to make things happen," Sudharsan stated.

"It's fascinating and so thrilling to watch him from the other end. He plays a lot of exciting shots. He converts a lot of good balls into boundaries, so it's really good to watch. He's giving me more awareness of what kind of shots to be played," he added.

Meanwhile, India finished the first day of the second Test on 318/2 with Jaiswal batting on 173 and Shubman Gill unbeaten on 20. The duo have formed a stand of 67 runs and will be looking to pile on many more runs on Day 2.
