India’s young top-order batter Sai Sudharsan took a freakish catch at forward square leg on Day 2 to dismiss West Indies opener John Campbell. The left-handed batter went for a sweep shot against Ravindra Jadeja. The ball stuck Sudharsan’s helmet, then chest as he managed to complete a catch while Campbell was in disbelief. After taking the catch, Sudharsan left the field and got medical attention. Devdutt Padikkal replaced him on the field as substitute fielder. On Day 3, Sudharsan did not take the field either as he was kept out of play by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team as a precautionary measure.
Is Sudharsan's injury serious?
“Sai Sudharsan had an impact injury on Day 2 while attempting a catch. He has not taken the field today as a precautionary measure. The injury is not serious, and he is doing fine. He continues to be monitored by the BCCI Medical Team,” the BCCI said in a statement.
Sudharsan misses maiden Test ton
Before the second Test of the series against West Indies, Sudharsan faced criticism for not being able to capitalise at the no.3 position. In the ongoing Test, Sudharsan registered his Test career best score. He missed out on a century in the first innings after being dismissed lbw by left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican. He scored 87 runs from 165 deliveries, featuring 12 fours.
Sudharsan shared a 193-run partnership for the second wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal who went on to score 175.
Will Sudharsan bat in 2nd innings?
If BCCI medical team continues to take precautionary mesaures, Sudharsan may not walk out to bat if India bat in the second innings.
Sudharsan's next appearance after West Indies Test series?
Sudharsan is not part of Tamil Nadu's Ranji Trophy 2025-26 squad. India's next Test series at home is against World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 winners South Africa, starting November 14.
