India's star spinner Shree Charani continues to justify her status as the world’s top-ranked T20I bowler with a sensational run in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. The 21-year-old was the star of the show once again during tonight's clash against Bangladesh, turning in a clinical four-over spell that dismantled the opposition's momentum while keeping the runs firmly under check.

Charani's brilliant figures of 2 for 21—at an exceptional economy rate of just 5.25, did more than just put India in the driver's seat; it etched her name into the national record books. By claiming two wickets on the night, she officially became the highest wicket-taker for the Indian Women’s team in a single edition of the T20 World Cup, surpassing a milestone that had stood for six years.

Heading into the match, the rising spin prodigy was tied at 10 wickets with former record-holder Poonam Yadav, who set the previous benchmark during India's memorable 2020 T20 World Cup campaign. Charani claimed the record outright the moment she dismissed Shorna Akter, before putting an exclamation point on her historic night by sending Nahida Akter back to the pavilion to further cement her place in Indian cricket history.

India beat Bangladesh to remain alive in semis race

Talking about the match, India kept their semi-final ambitions burning bright with a dominant five-wicket win over Bangladesh, heavily anchored by a fiery half-century from Shafali Verma. The young opener dismantled the opposition attack with a 34-ball 53, turning a potentially tricky pursuit into a comfortable chase as the batting unit wrapped up the game in just 16.5 overs.

Earlier, India’s decision to field first paid off, though the performance was marred by a familiar weakness. The team’s tournament-long fielding struggles resurfaced with four dropped catches, letting Bangladesh off the hook multiple times. However, the bowling department successfully masked these defensive errors, restricting the Tigresses to 136 for 8 despite fighting knocks from opener Juairiya Ferdous (33) and captain Nigar Sultana (32).

Player Impact: Returning to the starting lineup with immediate effect, left-arm spinner Radha Yadav was the pick of the bowlers, tearing through the Bangladesh middle order to finish with impressive figures of 3 for 28.

Supported by a highly economical effort from the rest of the attack, Radha kept the opposition completely shackled. While Bangladesh's Ritu Moni put up a spirited defense with her own spell of 2 for 29, her efforts were ultimately overshadowed by India's clinical all-round response.
